Long Tail Keywords
A direct attack makes no sense in this scenario. The market is simply too competitive to break into. Instead, you have to work the long tail. Long tail keywords will get you rankings and traffic for much less cost and effort.
A long tail keyword is a very focused search phrase consisting of at least 3 keywords. The really good long tail keywords consist of at least 4 or 5 keywords in them. The search volume for a long tail keyword is not very high, because it’s so focused, but the traffic it generates is definitely super targeted.
Look at this example. According to Google’s own keyword tool, the keyword DUI lawyers is searched for about 75,000 times a month. A quick look at Google shows that there are 6 million sites that match that keyword. Hard to compete against!
Make a long tail phrase by adding a location name to create the term Los Angeles DUI lawyers and you’ve drastically cut down competition — only about 400,000 sites match that term. The search volume is less, too — about 1500 searches per month — but it’s a much more realistic market to break into. Good SEO techniques are more likely to work with long tail keywords than high-volume, saturated keywords.
The only problem with long tail keywords you need to target more keywords to make a real difference. It’s a volume game — the more long tail keywords you rank for, the more traffic you’ll get. This can require a lot of effort. Over time, though, you’ll also find that your sites get better rankings for the main (short tail) keywords, a nice side effect of targeting long tail keywords.

Traffic is the key to success in online marketing.
The good news is that you can find ways to generate free traffic and make money online as you go. You would obviously need to invest your time and energy even if it doesn’t cost you money. Here are some well-known methods:
Traffic Generation Through Links
This is a highly effective method especially if the site with which you link is complementary to your website and can reciprocate fairly in terms of traffic. It works like this - you swap links with the other sites. As both of you increase your traffic, you also go up in the search engine rankings!
You get more customers, and both make money online. You’ve got to be cautious about the kind of site you link with, so it is better to do a bit of research and choose websites that already enjoy high search engine rankings!
Keyword Rich Content
Keyword rich content helps you rank high with the search engines so that your prospects can find you easily. It is not always necessary to use high competition keywords - if you take the time to do the research, you can find keywords that do not have much competition. Every ‘Internet Marketing Make Money Ebook’ will talk about this concept.
Forums and Blogs
You can set up a blog for free, and you can join a Forum for free. By sharing useful information with other members, you can develop credibility. By using a signature file that has your URL you can enjoy huge amounts of traffic to your website - for free. You just need to ensure that you adhere to the forum rules.
Video Marketing
Online video sharing sites like YouTube allow you to download, upload and share video clips for free. In fact you can even use your own channel where you can upload up to nine of your favorite videos to get your message out. This is an effective viral marketing tool to generate quality target traffic.
Of course, there are several more methods like article marketing, joint venture partnering, banner exchanges, etc. that work really well to bring in traffic.
Traffic generation is a matter of mixing and matching different methods to get the optimum effect. Use as many methods as possible and you will achieve all the targeted traffic you want.
